Eid Dessert Table Ideas: How to Create a Stunning Sweet Spread

Heyy y’all,

It’s Eid.

The biryani has been demolished.

The samosas are a distant memory.

And then the dessert table is unveiled.

Gasps.

Children sprint across the room. Adults pretend they’re just having a small slice but somehow end up back three times. Someone discovers the chocolate fountain and life as they knew it is over.

That is the power of a well done Eid dessert table.

And in our family, we do not do it by halves.

I’m Shaz, mum of four from East London, Bengali heritage, reformed Type 2 diabetic (yes, really… more on that in a moment) and someone who spends a genuinely embarrassing amount of money on the Eid dessert table every single year.

Completely worth it. Every time.

Today I’m sharing exactly how we put our dessert table together, what we buy, where we get it from, how we display it and the very important question of what to do with the leftovers.

Hint: not all of them make it to the guests.

Why the Eid Dessert Table Deserves Its Own Moment

Eid Dessert Table Ideas: How to Create a Stunning Sweet Spread

The savoury food is the main event. But the dessert table? That’s the finale.

The standing ovation. The moment everyone has been quietly waiting for since they arrived.

A well styled Eid dessert table does two things, it tastes incredible and it photographs beautifully.

And in 2026 if it didn’t make it to the family WhatsApp group it basically didn’t happen.

The key to a great Eid dessert table is variety. Traditional South Asian sweets alongside Western style desserts.

Something for the kids. Something for the adults. Something for the person who claims they don’t really eat sweet things and then somehow has a piece of everything.

The Centrepiece: The Eid Mubarak Cake

Every great dessert table needs a centrepiece and ours is always a large fresh cream Eid Mubarak cake. This year, red velvet with white fresh cream and gold Eid Mubarak lettering on top.

It sits centre stage on the dessert table and it photographs brilliantly. It’s also the cake everyone cuts together which creates a lovely moment during the day.

We order ours from our local bakery, Amirah Cakes and Bakes. If you’re looking for a halal celebration cake baker near you, Instagram is your best friend. Search your area plus “halal celebration cakes” and you’ll find talented local bakers doing stunning work.

Tips for ordering your Eid cake: Order at least 2 weeks in advance, Eid is peak season for cake makers.

Specify fresh cream rather than buttercream if you want a lighter finish. Ask for Eid Mubarak in gold or green lettering for the most striking look. Order larger than you think you need, it’s Eid, people go back for seconds.

Traditional South Asian Eid Sweets

A beautiful display of traditional South Asian Eid sweets — firni in individual clay pots, milk cake sliced on a board, gulab jamun in a gold dish and baklava arranged on a tiered stand, warm festive lighting

This is where our Bengali heritage comes out in full force. No Eid dessert table in our family is complete without the traditional sweets.

Firni

Creamy, fragrant, cardamom spiced rice pudding served in individual clay pots. It’s light enough that you can have it even after a full plate of biryani or at least that’s what I tell myself.

We order ours from Ambala, a well known South Asian sweet shop with branches across the UK. The quality is consistently excellent.

Individual clay pots of firni — creamy rice pudding dessert dusted with cardamom and decorated with a single pistachio, elegant and traditional presentation, soft warm lighting

Milk Cake

Dense, crumbly, intensely sweet South Asian milk cake. One small piece and you need a sit down. Which is exactly the point. A staple on every South Asian celebration table and non-negotiable on ours.

Luxury Eid milk cake tray, beautifully arranged square pieces of soft milk cake topped with pistachios and edible silver leaf (varak), placed in an elegant gold and emerald green tray, surrounded by Islamic geometric patterns, crescent moon and lantern decorations, warm festive lighting, premium dessert presentation, rich creamy texture, bakery display style, Eid celebration atmosphere, highly detailed, photorealistic, soft shadows, shallow depth of field, 4k food photography, studio lighting

Baklava

Flaky, honeyed, pistachio filled layers of pastry. Technically Middle Eastern but completely adopted by South Asian celebration culture at this point and rightfully so. We pick ours up from local sweet shops or Turkish bakeries in East London.

Misti

Traditional Bengali sweets — mishti doi (sweet yoghurt), rasgulla, sandesh. If you have a Bengali sweet shop near you — go. Everything is incredible.

Western Desserts: Because We Don’t Discriminate

Alongside the traditional sweets we always have a mix of Western style desserts too. Because why choose when you can have both.

Individual Cheesecake Pots

Creamy, indulgent, perfectly portioned. Individual pots mean no cutting required which is brilliant for a big gathering. Guests just pick one up and go.

Banoffee Pots

Biscuit base, caramel, banana, cream. Individual portions again. Always disappear quickly. Always.

Tiramisu

Coffee soaked sponge, mascarpone cream, cocoa dusting. A crowd pleaser every single time. Individual cups work perfectly for a dessert table.

Cupcakes

Decorated with Eid themed toppers — crescent moons, stars, Eid Mubarak flags. The kids love them and they display beautifully on tiered stands.

Brownies

Rich, fudgy, chocolate brownies cut into generous squares. Simple, universally loved and they keep well if there are any leftovers. There usually aren’t.

Jelly Pots

Individual little jelly cups for the kids. Colourful, fun and they keep the little ones at the dessert table while the adults take a moment. Brilliant invention.

The Chocolate Fountain: Non Negotiable

Every year without fail the chocolate fountain is the most popular thing on the entire dessert table. Kids lose their minds. Adults pretend they’re only doing it for the kids and then go back four times.

We set it up with fresh strawberries, grapes, pineapple chunks and marshmallows all on little skewers ready to dip. It looks stunning, it’s interactive and it photographs brilliantly.

If you don’t own one, buy one. They’re relatively affordable and the impact is enormous. Ours gets used for Eid, birthdays and any other occasion we can justify it.

How to Display Your Eid Dessert Table

Presentation is everything. The same desserts displayed carelessly on a table look like a school bake sale. Styled properly they look like a professional event.

Here’s how we do it:

Use height variation. Tiered stands, cake stands and risers create visual interest and make the table look abundant even before it’s fully loaded. Mix tall and low displays throughout.

Group similar items together. All the individual pots in one section. The cake as the centrepiece. The chocolate fountain at one end. The traditional sweets on a dedicated platter. Organised abundance.

Add decorative elements. Scatter crescent moon confetti, add small Eid Mubarak signs, use gold and green table runners and add fairy lights behind the table if possible. The backdrop matters.

Label your desserts. Small tent cards or labels so guests know what everything is, especially helpful for traditional sweets that not everyone will recognise.

Set up the night before. Everything that can go out the night before, stands, platters, decorative elements…do it then. On Eid morning you just add the actual food.

The Leftover Strategy: Because We’re Honest Here

Here’s something nobody talks about in those perfect dessert table posts, the leftovers.

We always have them.

And we always send them home with guests in disposable containers which is genuinely one of the loveliest things you can do as a host. Nobody wants to leave Eid empty handed.

Keep a stack of disposable containers with lids on hand. At the end of the day, fill them up and send everyone home with a little Eid takeaway box.

I’ll be honest with you though.

Not everything makes it to the guest containers. The really good bits, the firni, the red velvet cake, the brownies… those get strategically hidden in the kitchen before the gifting begins.

You didn’t hear that from me. 😄

A Word on Diabetes and Low Sugar Options: From Someone Who Should Know Better

Right. I have to address this because I’d be hypocritical not to.

I reversed my Type 2 diabetes. Genuinely, through Mounjaro, losing over 20kg and completely changing my diet and lifestyle. It was one of the hardest and best things I ever did.

And then every Eid I stand in front of the dessert table I just spent a small fortune building and make questionable decisions.

In all seriousness, if you have guests with diabetes, low sugar requirements or dietary restrictions, it’s worth having at least one or two lower sugar options on your dessert table.

A fresh fruit platter is beautiful, naturally sweet and genuinely appreciated by guests who can’t eat everything else. Dark chocolate dipped strawberries. Sugar free jelly pots. Small thoughtful touches that mean everyone feels included.

I’m adding this to our dessert table next year.

Genuinely.

Watch this space.

The Dessert Table is Worth Every Penny

Yes it costs money.

Yes I spend more than I probably should.

And yes I absolutely hide the firni before the guest containers get filled.

But the moment that dessert table is unveiled and you watch everyone’s faces, kids sprinting across the room, adults pretending to be dignified and failing completely, it is worth every single penny.

Make it beautiful. Make it abundant. Make it personal to your family’s tastes.

And maybe, just maybe, add a fruit platter this year.

For the diabetics among us.
